We don't like this stuff either, but we're a small company here at Dark Iron Fabrications. The following is here for both us the makers and you, the customer.

Payments and Pricing //

  • At our discretion we may offer the buyer the option to put down a 50% deposit. The remaining 50% is to be paid before dispatch, and orders will be held until full payment has been made.

  • Any deposits made will be non-refundable. Please make sure you are happy with everything before placing an order or paying a deposit.

  • Quotes/estimates are valid for 30 days from the date of quote or estimate. Our materials may change in price and we reserve the right to increase at any time.

  • Occasionally there may be information on our site that contains typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions that may relate to product descriptions, pricing, product shipping charges, delivery estimates and availability. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions, and to change or update information or cancel orders if any information is inaccurate at any time without prior notice.


Refunds, Returns and Alterations //

  • Because we offer bespoke and made to order products, we cannot accept returns or cancellations on any products once work has begun. Please ensure all details are correct when placing your order, and you’re happy with the designs.

  • Any deposits are not refundable.

  • Non-bespoke products (in styles and sizes listed as “in stock” on this website) can be partially refunded within 7 days of receipt. As you know, all items are made to order, so a 20% return fee will be applied, along with the cost of the initial delivery (as specified by the courier) and any subsequent collections. This 20% fee covers admin time, photographing and listing the item for sale, as well as storage costs.

  • We aim to always send out quality products, however mistakes can happen. Should you receive faulty or damaged goods, we will of course repair or replace the item. Please provide a detailed description in writing, with images if possible, of any areas of damage. See the products and materials section for what we deem as acceptable ‘character’ within the wood.

  • In the case of faulty or damaged goods, or an incorrect order being received, we will ensure all necessary steps are taken to provide you with the correct item/s, however we cannot offer any further discounts or refunds.

  • Once an order has been placed, by putting down a payment, the cost of any additional requested design drawings, or requested alterations to existing drawings will be charged to the customer. We do not provide drawings for all items.


Delivery //

  • When purchasing one of our pieces, please consider the access to the location you are having the product made for. Will it fit through all doors, corridors, stairwells etc.? We can disassemble some items for easier access if arranged, and will not be held responsible for items not fitting into the space required, and any re-deliveries and alterations will have to be charged to the customer.

  • During the ordering process we may advise that you have a few people available to help with the delivery. For example, the delivery driver will not be able to move a 10ft table on their own.

  • We’re furniture makers, not a removal company. The delivery driver reserves the right to unload your goods from the van as close to your property as possible. It is your responsibility to move the goods inside the address, unless previously arranged.

  • Where ever possible, we try to deliver our products ourselves but if you live just a little too far away from us, we may need to use a third party delivery service.

  • Most of the time our deliveries work on set prices, however, we reserve the right to increase the delivery costs for the following circumstances:

    • You live in a remote part of the UK.

    • Access to the delivery location is difficult. If there are several floors to manoeuvre up, or long distances to carry the furniture, it is vital you inform us before delivery is attempted.


  • Any attempted and failed deliveries due to access issues will be charged to the customer, along with the cost of any necessary alterations.

  • Delivery dates or times stated are estimates only. We will make all reasonable efforts to deliver the goods within the time or times agreed an we will not be responsible for any losses caused to the Buyer as a result of late delivery, and are unable to offer compensation if the agreed delivery date is missed or cancelled by the haulier, customer or ourselves.

  • We will always work to complete any goods in as timely fashion as possible, but unless agreed to beforehand with the Buyer, we will not be subject to any subsequent arbitrary delivery dates requested or insisted upon by the Buyer or their agents.

  • Sometimes we use third party delivery companies; your contact details will be sent onto them to arrange delivery. The delivery companies are responsible for organizing the delivery of your goods, and may not be completely flexible on delivery dates.

  • If the Buyer fails to meet the arranged delivery date, any charges incurred for redelivery will passed onto the Buyer, and likewise any charges incurred for the storage of goods if un signed for.

  • It is the Buyer’s responsibility to inspect goods on delivery for damages, please make us aware of any damaged or faulty goods within one week of receipt.

  • If the delivery company's proof of delivery is signed for by the customer, with no mention of any damage, no refunds or repairs can be issued for damages caused in transit.

  • You are more than welcome to collect the goods from our workshop based in Rochester, Kent on completion if previously arranged, and only once full payment has been received.

  • If upon delivery by us or from a third party, you are not available, we reserve the right to charge the customer for waiting time. Please inform us of any delivery cancellations 48 hours before due date.


Products, Materials and Design //

  • We work with natural hardwoods, so please be aware that our furniture could contain all of the following characteristic traits in every piece of furniture:

               - Knots/cracks/shakes

               - Natural colour variation 

               - Varying grain patterns 

If you want your piece of furniture to have a reduced amount of these attributes, please specify a quote for “Prime Oak, Walnut etc” and we will adjust the quote to suit.

  • We always try to choose the best boards for Prime Oak & Walnut orders, however there will still be small knots, varied wood grain and medullaray rays, depending on the stock we have or pick. After all, it was once a tree.

  • “Live Edge” goods are completely different each and every time, they can have high levels of character. We fix any large natural cracks and large knots with butterfly Keys and or Epoxy resin, however there’s no guarantee that they will be on every piece. Let us know if you want either or both in your piece (where possible)

  • We will not accept returns, offer refunds, make alterations or adjustments due to issues arising from the customer's personal preference on wood grain, pattern, knots, medullary rays, colour variation or any other naturally occurring elements. Natural wood is varied and the grain can even change in the same piece.

  • We cannot be held responsible for customers preference to design elements that are not discussed or raised at the point of ordering, and will make educated assumptions based on the style of the product, and it’s functionality etc.

  • We cannot be held responsible for changes in the wood due to environmental factors, once delivery has been made. All wood species can react to exposure to sunlight, changes in temperature and humidity.  All our wood is dried to a humidity of 8-10% moisture. We make our furniture with the movement of wood in mind; however we can’t take responsibility if the piece reacts to the humidity of your environment where the product is kept.

  • Please allow +/- 3cm on all dimensions. Working with boards, especially “live edge” can be tricky as they are all different widths and naturally curvy in shape. We will make sure we work to a specific measurement if it is needed (fitting inside and alcove etc) but please allow for a few cm on width and length for natural variances we can not control.



  • Please allow for a slight change in colour on finished items. With wood being naturally different in colour (even from the same tree) we will try our best to match any photos or samples we may have sent out.

  • We will not be held responsible for any issues with design, functionality or
    stability/wood movement when working from a customer’s/client’s design
    specifications. If any problems do arise, we will charge the customer accordingly
    for time spent rectifying the issues.

  • When you ask us for something to be drawn up, you receive one hour of drawing time
    free. Any longer than one hour will be charged to the customer accordingly.

  • If you ask for us to draw a design etc and do not go ahead with ordering the
    design to be made, you will be charged a flat rate of £250 for the design time
    and loss of earnings.

  • Our furniture, especially high traffic areas will need looking after. Please refer
    to the Aftercare pack given upon purchase

  • All of our items are going to be quite heavy! (More than likely, very heavy!) If weight is going to be a concern, please specify before placing your order.

  • Using solid hardwoods will mean that your items will be heavy, in fact very heavy. If the heavy weight is going to be a problem, please let us know before placing an order.

  • Always place heavier items at the bottom of shelving to avoid the piece becoming too heavy at the top, resulting in injury or items falling over.

  • We would recommend the customer always use an experienced tradesman, to fix any shelving, or wall hanging products from us. We do not take responsibility for any damage or injury from items not being fitted correctly.


Payments and Pricing //

  • All items including drawings, renders, images and items are the property of Dark Iron
    Fabrications ltd until fully paid for.

  • If we offer you, at our discretion a “deposit scheme”, you need to pay in full
    before delivery is arranged. (unless previously agreed in writing). No items
    will be dispatched or eligible for collection until the full amount has been

  • Occasionally there may be information on our site that contains typographical errors,
    inaccuracies or omissions that may relate to product descriptions, pricing,
    product shipping charges, delivery estimates and availability. We reserve the
    right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions, and to change or update
    information or cancel orders if any information is inaccurate at any time
    without prior notice (including after you have submitted your order).

  • Quotes given by Dark Iron Fabrications will remain valid for 30 days, after this time
    we reserve the right to change prices accordingly inline with material costs
    and existing listing prices.
